Hello, I am Mr. Craig Mathers, one of the Co-Interim Directors for 2021-2022 at the Jo Daviess Carroll Career Technical Education Academy (CTEA) in Elizabeth, Illinois.  The CTEA was originally known as the Area Vocational Center (AVC).  This will begin my 38th year in Education in an Illinois public school educating tomorrow’s leaders. 

I have been an elementary classroom teacher, a middle school Language Arts, Reading, PE, and Mathematics teacher. My administrative experience includes being a Junior High Assistant Principal (McHenry), K-8 Principal (Forrestville Valley), and a Superintendent (West Carroll, Dakota, and Galena).  In 2015 I was nominated and received the IASA Superintendent of Distinction for the Northwest Region.  I was also a member of the Illinois Principals’ Association Executive Board and mentored principal candidates for three years.

I have a Bachelor of Science degree (Elementary Education) and Masters of Science (Educational Administration) from Illinois State University.  I also hold a Superintendent’s endorsement from Northern Illinois University.

My family includes my wife (Judy) of 35 years, two daughters and three grandchildren. Our family dog is named Gizmo and she has proven to not be trainable over the last 10 years.
